Schools Education

Bees are incredibly important for our ecosystem.

It’s estimated that 1/3 of the food we eat is pollination dependent and bees are the most efficient pollinators on the planet.

We’d like to help the next generation of gardeners, scientists, teachers, politicians, parents, farmers and decision makers learn about pollination, food sustainability, the bee life cycle, honey production and how they can help bees in their own backyards.

The Practical Beekeeper’s Primary School Mini Beast incursions are a fun, interactive and easy way to engage kids in science and their environment.

Our kid’s courses are tailored to the age group we are working with and include demonstrations, interactive activities and a whole lot of fun. You can see an example of Benedict teaching and sharing with a school group in this short documentary:

To help kids learn we bring with us:

Teachers are asked to remain in the session to help with supervision of the kids.

In each Beekeeping Mini Beast session you and your students will get:

A focussed discussion and demonstration about wax, observation of wax melting when heat is applied, plus make a candle to take home.

A more in-depth discussion about the properties of honey and an experiment to show how honey is denser than water and oil.

Maximum 30 kids per session so everyone gets to see, touch, taste and ask questions.

Up to a maximum of 4 sessions per day, per school

1 x 45 minute session = $190
